About the Natonal Hospice Foundation (NHF)The National Hospice Foundation envisions a world where everyone facing serious illness, death, and grief will experience the best that humankind can offer.NHF supports the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's quality and research initiatives; hospice/palliative provider education activities; consumer engagement and caregiver services; and global hospice partnerships. NHF works to help make hospice care available to all who need it, increase consumers’ understanding of hospice, and to give people the skills to talk about and plan for serious illness and death. NHF also helps develop the healthcare leadership and professional education necessary to provide the highest quality hospice service. Indeed, the hospice care provided to people today is considerably supported and enhanced by the work of the National Hospice Foundation. HOW NHF HELPS LOCAL HOSPICE PROGRAMS NHF works at a national level so that hospices can avoid "reinventing the wheel" and wasting precious time and resources that are better spent on patients and families. In this way, NHF can break new ground in hospice care and pass along the results of its work to hospice providers throughout the nation. Here are some examples of what NHF has been able to do on behalf of local hospices: o Provide new and veteran hospice team members with access to the most cutting-edge educational materials to help team members do their jobs even better. o Through the development of consumer programs and public service announcements, increase patient and family awareness of and understanding of hospice care, so that more people can benefit from hospice, and receive care earlier. o Help hospices improve their quality of care by researching, developing and providing online self-assessment tools and other materials. o Fund Pediatric Hospice Standards development and education materials to help children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. o Research and test ways - in pilot projects in several states - to ensure greater access to hospice by underserved populations. NHF leverages Run to Remember donations, individual gifts, corporate contributions, and foundation grants to have maximum impact on the national issues facing the hospice and palliative care fields. |
